The rods / whips are superb for building Living Willow structures and Fedges, or simple hedges. Salix Viminalis is ideal for living willow structures or sculpture, being able to grow in single season very flexible 3.5m+ rods with no side shoots.
Rods can be pushed into the ground and will root over winter and within 3-4 years you have established trees as per photo below in 'Creating Woodland'. Very simple and easy way to convert field to woodland ideal for wildlife or producing logs for a log burner.
Ideal for growing for logs for log burner. Can harvest in 4-5 years and stump will grow back after that and be ready again for harvesting again 4 years after. You will need to trim such that leaves a single shoot as the established stump will put up 5-10.
The rods if left to grow will transform a field into woodland very quickly and easily, great for wildlife and or fuel. The membrane is worth using initially as makes for faster growth but can be cut away after 2-3 years.
This is hybrid version of Salix Viminalis which is very fast growing, developed in Scandinavia for biomass production for power stations. Looks the same as native version but grows much faster.
