Willow is excellent for screening, there are a range of options including willow fedge, willow hedge, willow wall, willow panels, or simply densely planted bands of willow cuttings.
Willow is ideal as it is fast growing, easy to propagate and very easy to plant.
Willow will also grow readily in most soil types and conditions.
This is a living Fence (Fence/Hedge).Willow rods are planted such that they for attractive latticework. This is straightforward to do and make a instant living barrier that simply needs trimming once or twice a year.
Willow cuttings or longer rods can be planted to form more traditional hedge. Any of our varieties can but used for this. Blocks of cuttings of different varieties make for a very attractive hedge with the various colours highlighted in the new growth.
We do not build panels ourselves but can provide the willow for these.
An example of these is shown on the photo here where 3 lines of fedge are being planted in parallel. These are attractive screen and reduce noise.
Substantial barriers can be made fairly easily and cheaply with Willow. Wide strips of membrane (5m x 100m rolls readily available) can be rolled out onto grass or weeds and 2,000 cuttings planted through it. Even in the first summer after planting this will provide excellent dense barrier great for wildlife. Salix Viminalis is the best variety for this.
